About our stores

Our Ridgway store has been in operation since 1955. Originally, it was a franchise store of the A&P Company. In 1977, after A&P pulled out of our area, it became one of the original franchise stores for Riverside Markets, which was the Penn Traffic Company. Customers have known us over the years as John’s Riverside, John’s IGA and Ridgway BiLo Foods.

In 2001, an ownership change brought the market to its current name of Elk County Foods, Ridgway. We pride ourselves on being a surprising store. We are not the largest in the area, but we have a large variety of items.   We constantly work with our customers to find the items they want to shop for, and we keep up with the newest trends the best we can.   We offer outstanding perishables in fresh meat, fresh produce, fresh deli and bakery items. We offer a large variety of gluten free and non-gmo items that go right along with healthy living today.

Our Johnsonburg store, known as Elk County Foods, Johnsonburg, was added to the group in 2011. The store is as unique as our Ridgway store and features all the fresh perishables, as well as the Johnsonburg Press Café, which is a nice spot to enjoy that stores’ homestyle cooking.

We currently have more than 50 Elk County or Regional small businesses that sell their items in our stores every day! “Shop local with us” is more than a slogan. It is the way we do business every day in our stores.

As an ownership group, we believe in investing in our stores and the communities that we serve. Our staff…qualified individuals from all over Elk County, remains our best asset. Many of them have been with us for more than 20 years and they know our customers as much as our customers know them.
